By joining the Democratic Party of Evanston you can:
- Shape the direction of the party through candidate debates and through our members-only endorsement sessions. Democratic Party of Evanston endorsements are highly sought after by candidates throughout the state.
- Support endorsed Democratic candidates with canvassing, phone-banking, and petition drives. In 2008, the Democratic Party of Evanston played a pivotal role in electing Barack Obama, sending nearly 1,000 people to Iowa, making tens of thousands of buttons that were used throughout the Midwest and entering thousands of names into a database for the campaign. The national campaign recognized the effectiveness of the Democratic Party of Evanston and asked it to recruit volunteers for targeted GOTV teams sent to Iowa and Indiana.
- Make change by partnering with other effective organizations such as Organizing for America, which worked with the Democratic Party of Evanston to galvanize hundreds of volunteers who gathered at the Democratic Party of Evanston office this fall to make nearly 10,000 calls for health care reform.
- Learn about issues at town hall meetings, presentations, debates and film screenings on diverse topics such as healthcare, the Evanston budget and Guantanamo prisoners.
- Really get to know the politicians you elect. Democratic Party of Evanston members are invited to events that allow them to talk with our elected leaders in a variety of formal and informal settings.
