Democratic Party of Evanston board member Samantha Reed and U.S. Rep Jan Schakowsky talk politics during the "Speed Dating" fundraiser.
Often, when U.S. Rep Jan Schakowsky sits down to talk politics she is chatting with someone like MSNBC's Rachel Maddow or Ed Schultz. But on Sunday night she got a chance to listen to some "regular" folks--the friends, neighbors, voters and loyal supporters who turned out for a fun "Speed Dating with the Dems" fundraiser at Prairie Moon in Evanston. Schakowsky, who chatted with dozens of voters, declared it a great idea.
Likewise, state senate candidate Daniel Biss, who won his seat as a representative by walking door to door throughout his entire district, must also have relished the opportunity to preserve his shoe leather still while honing his campaign pitch with a stream of eager voters who sat down with him for two-minute "speed dates."
Other "daters" included State Rep. Robyn Gabel, 17th District candidate Laura Fine, and Rep. Kelly Cassidy (14th). Several judicial candidates participated, including Evanston's Lionel Jean-Baptiste and and Wilmette's Abbey Romanek. The whole thing was fast and fun--and the money raised will help the Democratic Party in its grassroots campaign activities in this important election year.
